What is Ketamine Therapy?

Ketamine is an FDA-approved medication that has been used safely in medical settings for over 50 years. In sub-anesthetic doses, it has demonstrated remarkable antidepressant and anti-anxiety properties — often producing noticeable improvement within hours rather than the weeks required by traditional medications.

At NOW Mental Health, we offer ketamine therapy under the direct supervision of licensed medical professionals. Each session is conducted in a comfortable, private clinical setting designed to optimize your treatment experience.

Ketamine works differently from traditional antidepressants. Rather than targeting serotonin or norepinephrine, it acts on the glutamate system and promotes neuroplasticity — essentially helping your brain form new, healthier neural connections.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ketamine therapy safe?

Yes. Ketamine has been FDA-approved since 1970 and has over 50 years of safety data. When administered by trained medical professionals at sub-anesthetic doses, it has an excellent safety profile. We monitor vital signs throughout every session.

How quickly will I see results?

Many patients notice improvement within hours to days after their first infusion. This is in contrast to traditional antidepressants which can take 4-6 weeks. A full course of treatment typically involves 6 infusions over 2-3 weeks.

Does insurance cover ketamine therapy?

IV ketamine infusions are typically not covered by insurance but may be eligible for HSA/FSA funds. Our consultation is completely free, and we offer transparent pricing at $450 per infusion session so there are no surprises.

What are the side effects?

Common temporary side effects include mild dissociation, drowsiness, dizziness, and nausea. These typically resolve within 1-2 hours after treatment. You will need someone to drive you home after each session.

Who is NOT a candidate for ketamine?

Ketamine may not be appropriate for individuals with uncontrolled hypertension, active substance abuse, certain psychotic disorders, or pregnancy. Your provider will conduct a thorough evaluation during your consultation.

Can I combine ketamine with my current medications?

In most cases, yes. Your provider will review your current medications during the consultation. Some medications may need to be adjusted. Never stop or change medications without medical guidance.
